5 Applications for Transportation Services in Indonesia

No need to bother anymore, like a few years ago, which required us to come to the transportation terminal if we wanted their services. Thanks to technological developments that have penetrated the transportation business, everything has become easier. Technological developments began to change public transportation services in big cities. In the capital city of Jakarta, in recent times, application-based transportation solutions have become increasingly popular.

Ordering a transportation vehicle is now easy, simply through the application on the user’s mobile device.

From two-wheeled vehicles, there are already online motorcycle taxi services (Go-Jek, GrabBike). Meanwhile, four-wheeled vehicles already have online taxis (Uber, GrabTaxi). And, which has recently appeared, is a three-wheeled vehicle, or online bajaj, the Bajai App.

With this application we don’t have to bother looking for a vehicle, and are afraid because we don’t know the driver. Ok! these are 5 applications of transportation service providers / today.

1. Go-Jek

This online motorcycle taxi company named PT Go-Jek Indonesia has been established since 2010 in Jakarta. Currently, the CEO is Nadiem Makarim, an Indonesian youth who graduated from Harvard Business School, Harvard University, United States.

Go-Jek offers transportation services for motorcycle taxis, food delivery and, or couriers at affordable kilometers-based fares.

In this service, prospective passengers and Go-Jek drivers can interact with each other. Once ordering Go-Jek, the system will find the nearest Go-Jek driver and, then, will pick up the prospective passenger. Go-Jek riders on the application will call prospective passengers.

The interaction is in the form of information on the identity of the Go-Jek driver who will pick him up, along with his photo and phone number. In addition, consumers can see Go-Jek drivers in real time by monitoring using GPS from their smart phones.

So far, this local company has 10,000 motorcycle taxi drivers. All of the riders are spread across Jabodetabek, Bandung, Surabaya, Bali and Makassar.

It is claimed, Go-Jek per day, on average there are about 200 motorcycle taxi drivers who say they want to join Go-Jek.

For profit sharing, Go-Jek applies 80 percent for motorcycle taxi drivers and 20 percent for Go-jek.

2. GrabBike

The new online motorcycle taxi service was launched in Jakarta in June 2015. GrabBike is an online motorcycle taxi service provided by GrabTaxi, an application-based taxi booking service company. GrabTaxi is a company from neighboring countries.

Operationally, it uses the same pattern as Go-Jek, where prospective passengers order motorcycle taxis through the application. Later, nearby GrabBike riders will contact prospective passengers. Currently, GrabBike is available in Jakarta and surrounding areas.

For profit sharing, 90 percent for motorcycle taxi drivers and 10 percent for GrabBike. The GrabBike application can be downloaded at the Play Store, iOS and Windows application centers.

3. GrabTaxi

This taxi-messaging service from Malaysia has been in Indonesia since June 2014. In its operation, GrabTaxi cooperates with several driver-partners and taxi companies that are already operating in Jakarta and its surroundings.

Prospective passengers can order a taxi through the GrabTaxi application.

This number one taxi messaging application in Southeast Asia claims that prospective passengers can find out the booking status in one minute and allow sharing information with friends, while driving a taxi for safety.

GrabTaxi is now present in six countries in Southeast Asia, namely Malaysia (9 cities), Singapore, Thailand (4), Vietnam (2), Indonesia (3) and the Philippines (4).
For Indonesia, GrabTaxi is now available in Jakarta, Padang and Surabaya. The GrabBike application can be downloaded at the Play Store, iOS and Windows application centers.

4. Uber

This transportation solution service was founded in 2009, and is based in San Francisco, United States.

Uber is here to connect passengers and taxi drivers through an app. The goal is to make it easier for passengers to access and provide passengers with many choices.

Since its launch in 2009 until now, Uber is present in hundreds of cities in 59 countries in the world. In Indonesia, Uber has been present in Jakarta, Bandung and Bali.

In Jakarta, Uber has two services, namely UberX with a basic tariff of IDR 3,000 and IDR 300 per minute, or an option of IDR 2001 per Kilometer. For a cancellation fee of IDR 30 thousand. While other services, namely UberBlack with a basic tariff of Rp. 7,000 and Rp. 500 per minute, or Rp. 2,850 per kilometer. For a cancellation fee of IDR 30 thousand.

For Bandung, there is only one Uber service with a basic fare of IDR 3000 and IDR 400 per minute, or IDR 2,500 per kilometer. Cancellation fee of IDR 30 thousand.

5. Bajaj App

This is a new transportation service application that is present in Jakarta. Bajaj App was born thanks to the initiation of the Land Transport Organization (Organda) DKI Jakarta.

Bajaj App offers the same concept as other online transportation transportation booking services. Prospective passengers can order a gas-fueled blue bajaj (BBG) through the application.

Unlike Go-Jek, or GrabBike in Jakarta, the Bajaj App fully hands over income, 100 percent to the bajaj driver.

The purpose of the presence of the Bajaj App is to get closer to passengers with bajaj services, as well as to organize the transportation system in Jakarta.

Currently, the question of tariffs is still conventional, negotiate with the driver on the spot. However, in its development the tariff will be based on kilometers such as online motorcycle taxis. Bajaj App is not officially launched yet.

Currently Bajaj App is still in the testing phase and will be officially launched next week. So far, Bajaj App on Play Store has been downloaded 1000-5,000 downloads.

With the ease of this transportation service, it is very likely that service users will return to it.
